"My worst experience in foster care was being adopted by someone who was once a foster parent. I had other experiences but this one is at the top because I was mentally and emotionally abused. I thought that this was my chance at family and love but it wasn't. It was eye opening to live with a narcissist and to experience how adults will knowingly take advantage of children.

What I needed most when I emancipated was a true friend and shelter. I needed someone that understood my dreams and could guide me to a path that would get me there. I needed a home and to learn what it takes to sustain one. I needed time to figure myself out, and where I wanted to go. When I emancipated I needed love.

The best advice I would give is to not be average, and to think outside the box. Question everything not because of lack of trust but because of curiosity and the obligation of being an independent thinker at a young age. I would say make education a priority, as well as self examination. Stay optimistic and find your peace. Have faith with a positive attitude and everything will work out in your favor."
