VICKY PENG / IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE

"Growing up in foster care can only make you stronger."

Vicky Peng shares #HerStory:

"I lived with countless families and was moved from one school to another. Making new friends was one of the hardest things to do. I was also abused by one of my foster moms who beat me with a hanger.

Honestly, what I needed most when I was emancipating was someone who cared and loved me. Growing up in foster care, I have not yet met a single foster parent who truly cared for their foster kids. They only seemed to care about the money.

If I could give one piece of advice to someone in the system, I will tell him/her that the foster system may be a long, unstable, and very frightening journey but it can be a good thing or bad thing, as weird as that sounds. It all depends on how you live your life. For me, growing up in foster care has taught me how to be independent."
