Benjamin H. / Keep Your Head Up High

My most defining and challenging experiences in the foster care system was realizing that many people see an “orphaned” child like they are worth nothing. But the small percentage of people who really do care go a heck of a long way to show it. I got to experience stability and encouragement.

If I could give one piece of advice to someone in the system now I would say to keep your head up high and let the people you trust guide you because after it’s all done it’s only you that you can trust.

The foster care system taught me how to be resilient, strive toward a better tomorrow and never think of myself as less than. When I was emancipating from the foster care system I needed guidance on how I should go about receiving my medical and dental benefits.
